Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) Who can get it on the NHS?

We are aware that recent media coverage has reported the availability of Mounjaro through the NHS however, it is essential to understand that access is strictly limited due to strict NHS guidelines. It is not available for general or cosmetic weight loss purposes.

Mounjaro is a medication designed for managing type 2 diabetes and is now available on the NHS — but only for patients who meet certain clinical criteria.

To qualify for Mounjaro on the NHS, you must meet all of the following criteria:

1. BMI over 40
– You can check your BMI using the NHS BMI calculator, if you know your height and weight.

2. At least four of the following five health conditions must be diagnosed and recorded in your medical history:
• Hypertension (high blood pressure requiring medication)
• Obstructive sleep apnoea, confirmed by a sleep clinic
• Type 2 diabetes
• Cardiovascular disease (including heart disease, stroke or vascular disease)
• Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)
